ABOUT US
Concerned Carolinians is a politically unaffiliated, grass-roots political action group dedicated to the preservation of democracy, the rule of law and our US Constitution, made urgent by the current Trump administration’s threats to our nation’s founding principles.
WE STRIVE TO:
protect the independence of institutions crucial to a vibrant and diverse democracy
foster the common good
encourage public civility and respect for individual rights
promote our objectives via peaceful resistance, advocacy, education and community engagement
Concerned Carolinians was founded in March of 2025 in the hope that our collective actions will have more influence than our individual efforts to promote what is good for all North Carolinians and Americans.
We are dedicated to creating bridges within our community and to ensuring that our elected officials, at the local, state and federal levels, defend and fortify our government of the people, by the people and for the people.
We have come together from all walks of life, and we welcome all who are interested in realizing our mission. We hope you will join us!

WHAT WE DO
Our activities stem from our goals, which lead us to have three primary efforts - public demonstrations, election of officials who will both respect the rule of law and further the common good, and activities that take advantage of our members’ areas of expertise as we work to influence North Carolina and Federal policy. -DEMONSTRATIONS- JOIN US!
Our weekly demonstrations in Hillsborough, NC, from 11am-noon on Saturdays, provide a community structure and forum for expression of our increasing concerns and our intention to right the wrongs being done to individuals within our borders and to the foundations of our democracy. The demonstrations also provide a much needed infusion of hope to continue our efforts. We get to know one another’s talents and determination as we meet Saturday after Saturday, and we draw energy and encouragement from the increasingly large numbers of people attending. Our highly visible presence along Churton Street, on the grounds of the historic Old Orange County Courthouse, also allows the many passersby to join in resisting this administration’s illegal actions and destruction of bedrock American values.
In addition to our weekly demonstrations, we have organized two “No Kings” days, as well as “Good Trouble” and “Workers Over Billionaires” demonstrations in Hillsborough.
We welcome all who want to join our peaceful resistance to the destruction of our country’s democracy and freedoms by the Trump administration.
ELECTIONS
Concerned Carolinians are committed to ensuring free and fair elections for all registered voters. With the mid-term elections upon us, we are focussing on voter security issues: safe registration, safe access to polls, poll watching, voter education, knowledge of legalities and rights, and how to resist voter suppression tactics. Some of our involvement will be sponsored by our organization, and some will take advantage of training and other opportunities through other organizations. We are organizing around voter security issues and would welcome any experience you can share on this front. Please contact us if you’re interested in working on election security or want to learn more about opportunities.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
Our Speaker Series features local and nationally known guests who have helpful expertise, insights and information of interest to our members as we learn more about local and national political realities and options. Our speakers have provided historical contexts and elections information and have highlighted the impact of various policies on North Carolina and our country more broadly. Our discussions encourage respectful consideration of ideas and open minds. They also help us zero in on how to use our talents and energy most effectively. We often collaborate with other community organizations in sponsoring our speakers. Our speaker events are open to the public and free of charge. Many of our members have expertise in areas such as taxation, crime prevention, immigration, public health, law, the environment, education, cultural studies, elections, economics, the state and national politics, and other areas of importance at this moment in time. Policy Advising
The attacks of the Trump administration on academic freedom, diversity, immigration, funding of vital research and other aspects of university life have hit hard in our immediate vicinity. Many of our members have ties to area universities and are involved in trying to preserve the autonomy and founding principles of these institutions. Contact us to learn more!
University Involvement
Getting accurate information to the public is of critical importance. One of our main goals before the mid-term elections is to get factual information to voters about registration, voting requirements and voting opportunities. Our members also create and distribute fact sheets and postcards about issues such as the environment, immunizations, the real cost of the Big Beautiful Bill. We also contribute articles and write letters to various news outlets. We would love to have your ideas and expertise in getting the facts out there!

Disseminating Facts
Community service (currently weekly food donations to our local food pantry), allows us to tangibly connect with and help our neighbors. It also fosters important bridge building with others who may not share our political goals. If you have suggestions for community service projects or want to become more involved in our food drive, please contact us.

Connecting with Other Opportunities for Involvement
We are eager to coordinate with and support the work of other organizations whose goals dovetail with our own. Some of these organizations are local to Hillsborough, Durham and Chapel Hill, and some are statewide and national. Our members are also involved in creating their own unique ways of resisting the infractions of this administration.
